The gist of this web site is this:

  • The wolf is not the evil beast of folklore; the real wolf is a more surprising animal. And since the wolf's reintroduction to the US it has been the source of major positive changes to the fauna and flora.

  • The last wolves in Britain were exterminated in the Scottish Highlands in the 17th century.

  • Wolves can live almost anywhere there is food, in places as diverse as farmland and the Arctic, so will do well in the Scottish Highlands, where there is plenty of food and space for them.

  • The vanguard of the wolf reintroduction is public education about wolves.

  • The British Government has signed European conventions which include considering the possibility of reintroducing wolves to Britain.

  • Scottish Natural Heritage, the Government's conservation body in Scotland, is funded by taxpayers (50 million pounds annually), so should respond positively if taxpayers want wolves reintroduced.

  • Farmers in most of Scotland, including the Highlands, are subsidised by taxpayers by nearly half a billion pounds annually to prevent bankruptcy. So if the public want a wolf reintroduction, farmers may find it difficult to object to one.

  • Wolves are just beginning to recover in western Europe and the US. There are many reasons why we should recovery our wolves in Britain and we should help wolves to recolonise the Scottish Highlands.
