The rate of unemployment is continuing to rise in the UK. This is mainly down to the severe austerity measures that were introduced by the coalition government, and the fact that these are really starting to bite now and take their toll on the economy.

Youth unemployment is at its highest level on record and this is something that has been blamed, in no small way, for the recent riots that hit many cities in England - however, many other people just think that the youth of today have been spoilt too much and expect everything to be laid out for them on a silver platter. I know I do!

Nevertheless, the employment market really is in a dire state at this precise moment in time. The number of cases being brought against employers for wrongful and constructive dismissal is now reaching a record high and it is worrying to acknowledge the fact that the government has recently cut legal aid entitlement for this area of law.

This has led to an increasing number of people trying to find their way in life within the ranks of the self-employed. This is something I can certainly relate to, personally. We get fed up with working our guts out for employers that are only ever out to line their own pockets and do their best to avoid as many legal obligations as they can possibly get away with.

It will probably sound extreme, but this description probably describes the vast majority of employers within the UK. You are definitely very lucky if you are able to work for that elusive and rare beast known as a good employer.
